Native Prairies Association of Texas, Fort Worth Chapter: Teaching the Fort Worth Prairie Workshop - Fort Worth

Oct 15 2022 - 8:30am to 2:30pm
Chisholm Trail Community Center
4936 McPherson Boulevard
Fort Worth , TX

Join fellow teachers as we explore the history and appreciation of our native habitat: PRAIRIES!

Teachers will discover new ways to engage their students by learning about and exploring the prairie landscape that is disappearing in our area with development. We will explore a native prairie remnant that was kept as a key feature of Chisholm Trail Park in southwest Fort Worth. Teachers will leave with knowledge of activities to use with their students and of a local prairie available for school trips.

A delicious lunch will be provided courtesy of generous donations from the public. We will spend the morning discussing suggested classroom activities, the history of the Fort Worth Prairie and what could be found there in the past. After lunch we'll spend the afternoon doing prairie activities, including journaling, plant surveys, animal tracking, insect ID, using iNaturalist, and finding solace on the prairie!

After the workshop teachers are invited to join in a statewide Zoom discussing prairie education successes and concerns across the state. They will also be invited to NPAT's Facebook page Pocket Prairie Teachers where they can connect with teachers across the state. Participants are invited to join Pocket Prairie Teachers whether or not they attend the workshop. Join us for fun on the prairie!
