From April 1-30, Ennis showcases over 40 miles of mapped driving Bluebonnet Trails sponsored by the Ennis Garden Club. These trails are the oldest such trails known in the state, and tens of thousands of visitors make the short trek to Ennis to view this wonderful wildflower show. In Ennis, the bluebonnets typically peak around the 3rd week of April, according to the Ennis Garden Club. This can vary year to year due to weather conditions and terrain, so check website or call 972-878-4748 before your visit.

You can pick up a Bluebonnet Trail Map at the Ennis Welcome Center located at 201 NW Main St, Ennis, Texas 75119. The Ennis Welcome Center is open Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fort Worth Audubon Society: Prairie Walks at the Sid Richardson Tract - Crowley (Through June 21)

Join Suzanne Tuttle to explore this tract of prairie land on the southeast shore of Benbrook Lake. 

This fieldtrip will be held on the 3rd Friday of the months February thru June. The meet-up times for April 19, May 17 and June 21 will be 8 a.m.. The meet-up times for February and March will be 9 a.m. Suzanne plans to arrive about 15 minutes before the start times so folks will see the pull-out.

The fieldtrip will last approximately 1.5 hours, but Suzanne will stay longer if the day is very birdy. The trail is natural surface, some will wander off trail, so please wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the weather conditions. There are no facilities on the property.

A family friendly Earth Day celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park. The fest features hands-on crafts like creating a bee hotel, making a seed ball and more. Enjoy music food, and give aways. Register to win a compost bin.


 

Tarrant Regional Water District: Trinity River Trash Bash

The annual event features nine cleanup locations along the Clear and West Forks of the river throughout Fort Worth. Prior to the event, volunteers will be provided trash bags and gloves in order to collect the trash and debris. Volunteers can also attend Trash Bash volunteer after-party from 10 a.m. to noon.

Native Prairies Association of Texas, Fort Worth Chapter: Chalk Mountain Ranch Prairie Tour - Somervell County

Explore Chalk Mountain Ranch, a 341-acre Texas Land Conservancy conservation easement in the Lampasas Cut Plain of North Central Texas. Jeff Quayle of Native Prairies Association of Texas will lead this exploration in Somervell County.

Use of the iNaturalist app during fieldtrips is also encouraged, so valuable data can be contributed to iNaturalist

We’ll meet in Glen Rose and carpool to the ranch. En route, we will stop on the way to see a rare species only known from Somervell County in North Central Texas. Once at Chalk Mountain, our hike will be on easy to moderate terrain, up to 2.5 miles. Bring plenty of water.

$20 suggested donation. Donations will be divided and distributed to Texas Land Conservancy (conservation easement holder for the property) and Native Prairies Association of Texas (conservation and land trust organization). Register online.

The third Saturday of every month will be a volunteer work day at the Sheri Capehart Nature Preserve. 

We tackle a wide variety of needs for the preserve. These include brush clearing, seeding, trail maintenance, transplanting and trash pickup. Volunteers get to learn in depth about the preserve and its goals while contributing to sustaining and improving this treasured ecosystem.

Bring gloves, appropriate apparel and suntan lotion/bug repellent as needed. Meet in the parking lot.

Explore the art and culture of Japan while enjoying the beauty of the Garden at the Spring Japanese Festival April 20-21. Hosted in cooperation with the Fort Worth Japanese Society, the festival includes cultural demonstrations, performances, unique shopping opportunities and traditional foods.

According to the Japanese zodiac, 2024 is the year of the wood dragon. Like spring, the symbolism of wood represents a time of renewal, change and rebirth. 

Admission: $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65+, $6 for children 6-15, and free for those under 5 (when purchased online). Parking: Parking is free in FWBG's main lot and in the Garden’s remote parking area during regular business hours.

The Earth Fair, hosted by the UT Dallas Office of Student Volunteerism & Office of Sustainability, will feature informational booths and interactive activities from student organizations, campus departments, and community partners. More than 400 students and community members participated in last year's UT Dallas Earth Fair to learn about alternative energy options, organic gardening, habitat restoration, local food production, waste reduction, and more. This year's Earth Fair theme will be "Green UTD."

This year, Earth Fair will also be Zero Waste event. Booths will not be permitted to provide giveaways/activities that generate trash.
