Presentation: Chasing the Whoopers & Other Great Birds of the Texas Gulf Coast

Join photographer and outdoor author Wendel Withrow for “on the scene” reporting and photographs from the 2025 Whooping Crane Festival in Port Aransas, Texas. We will take a boat ride to the back waters of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge to see the endangered whooping cranes and their winter friends. Truly, Wendel’s birding photographs are unlike any you have seen before. Bring $15 to purchase a signed copy of Wendel’s camping and hiking book (now in its second edition.)

About the Presenter: Wendel Withrow is a native Texan who began treks into the woods at a young age and has been exploring nature ever since. He has been a lifelong camper and his passion for photographing birds and all types of nature follow the hundreds of miles of trails he has explored and appreciated. He has been an active member of the local and regional Sierra Club and is author of Best Tent Camping – Texas. He serves as Director of Green Source DFW, an all-digital environmental newspaper and community resource seeking to inspire and coordinate the ever-growing number of local green-minded groups and their dedicated supporters.
