About Our Presentations:
February 2021 was a month for the record books. Statewide, Texas citizens experienced the coldest temperatures in more than 50 years. Widespread power outages left many people in the dark for days.

Two NTREG members have very energy efficient homes. They survived the weather unscathed. Paul Westbrook and Mike Renner are going to share their stories about their homes, and how energy efficiency helped them survive the storm.

About Our Presenters:
Paul Westbrook isn't an architect. He's a homeowner who had a dream. He pursued that dream by designing his passive / active solar home near Fairview, Texas. Paul's design was so effective, it won the 1996 National Association of Home Builders Energy Value Housing Award for Innovative Design in a warm climate. Equipped with a geothermal HVAC system, solar hot water, and numerous other energy efficiency measures, Paul will share information about his home, and how its efficiency helped in the record cold of February, 2021.

Mike Renner also had a dream. He too designed and built a home near Weatherford, Texas. Mike's home is unique. With the flip of a switch, it can go from grid-connected to off-grid operation relying exclusively on solar energy and wind power for electricity. Mike's home is equipped with solar panels, a wind turbine, and solar hot water. His design also includes a solar-heated greenhouse and a large rainwater capture system.
