A community meeting has been organized at the Park in the Woods Recreation Center with District 3 Councilman Casey Thomas to express opposition to zoning application change (z 145-357). The proposed zoning change is from Residential Zoning (PD 521 S-2a) to Industrial Zoning (PD 521 S-1c,d) on the property south of I-20 and to the east of Mountain Creek Parkway and north of Camp Wisdom Rd. The zoning change would allow a 1.8 million square foot warehouse, the size of 31 football fields, in the entrance/gateway to the Mountain Creek community of 2,000 homes.

The Mountain Creek Neighborhood Alliance (MCNA) is organizing against the industrializing of their neighborhoods. It is comprised of 12 plus homeowner’s associations and neighborhood groups and has been in existence for multiple years. It serves as an umbrella organization to maintain and promote the quality of life of the Mountain Creek area through direct action and education.

The developer, First Industrial Realty Trust, Inc., has headquarters in Chicago. An email campaign has been initiated by MCNA residents to inform First Industrial and city of Dallas officials of the many dangerous traffic issues that exist.

The Dallas Mountain Creek area is known for its trees, hills and the natural beauty of the Cedar Hill Preserve, Dogwood Canyon and Cedar Hill State Park all of which surround this community. Thousands of trees will be cut down to build these warehouses if the zoning change is allowed.
