The Institute's Center for the City, under the directorship of Dr. Gail Thomas, has always emphasized urban design as a cornerstone concept of the ‘livable city.’ With the creation in 2009 of the CityDesign Studio within City Hall, the prospect that Dallas' future will include a consciously pursued design strategy is real. But how will our city actually be shaped in terms of form and function? In what ways does design really matter? Such questions will be explored as speakers assess current city design and look into the future.
