Friends,

Grebes, cormnorant, pelicans, ducks galore, herons, egrets, shorebirds, gulls, etc., etc., etc.

I am leading an impromptu birding field trip at White Rock Lake Friday, December 16, beginning at 9:00 AM.  It is open to everyone.

Meet at Sunset Bay* on the east side of the lake - that's where Barbara Turner holds her Amphibian Watches.  (*  Buckner to Poppy at Doctor's Hospital, Poppy to E. Lawther, left on E. Lawther to dock.)

After about an hour observing water birds, we'll drive to the parking lot on Winsted near the Spillway.  Here we will trek up to the spillway and the dam for more water birds.  And depending on time, we'll go into the old fish hatchery for woodland birds.

Bring binocs.  Have a scope?  Bring it along.  I'll have mine.

If you wish, RSVP in case of iffy weather or invasion of lemmings.

A bald eagle was observed in the old fish hatchery in early 2009.  Google White Rock Lake Eagle for story and photos.

Ornithologically,

Jim Varnumn
