At Groundwork Dallas, they carry out their mission by engaging and training youth in environmental stewardship, water quality, and trail-building using the Trinity Forest and Green Belt of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River as an outdoor classroom.

The programming contains three main outputs. 1) A Green Team, consisting of high school youths recruited in partnership with local schools, which meets weekly in schools, at the Groundwork office, and at work sites to engage in environmental projects that help maintain local urban forests. These young people also get opportunities twice each year to participate in week-long conservation trips to National Parks at no cost. 2) Groundwork engages Green Team youths, corporate groups and community volunteers in weekly clean-ups events for the beautification and ecological restoration of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River and surrounding forest through the removal of thousands of pounds of trash, tires,and debris. 3) Groundwork leads and promotes trail building and green space development to provide local communities with access to our urban forests and waterways. The nonprofit also trains Green Team youths and local community members for the work through the Lone Star Trail Building School each year.

Groundwork Dallas provides training, opportunities and exposure for environmental stewardship for underserved youth in DFW. Groundwork builds trails and other recreational amenities in are parks and green spaces,. Groundwork works tirelessly to help mitigate trash an debris in the Elm Fork of the Trinity River which flows through central-west part of Dallas.

Other community and environmental impacts include tree planting and taking youth teams to National Parks for clean ups and learning opportunities and corporate river tours and clean-ups.

Groundwork is the only organization in DFW doing the work of Trinity River trash abatement, making capital improvements that enhance and/or enable public access and enjoyment of the areas recreational areas and trains youth in hands-on environmental stewardship.
