Earthships are self sustained, off-grid houses made out of recycled materials that provide for all human needs of shelter, comfort, water and power. Earthships collect their own rain water, create their own solar & wind power, and maintain a consistent temperature in any climate through thermal mass. This workshop is an in depth overview of how to build an Earthship, and how each system works. There is a fee of $100 for the instructor, and includes the instruction booklet. Irrigation Quick Fixes 

Tuesday, May 8, 6-8 p.m., Southwest Branch Library, Dr. Dotty Woodson, Texas AgriLife Extension Service 

To work efficiently, an irrigation system requires, at the very least, an annual check-up. An inefficient system may waste as much as 50% due to minor problems that are easy to fix. This class will provide step-by-step instruction on how to perform an irrigation check up as well as how to make minor repairs and adjustments.  Information on how to select a licensed irrigation professional for larger more complicated jobs will also be presented.

Dallas Water Utilities Conservation is hosting a rain barrel making class taught by Dr. Dotty Woodson, Extension Program Specialist - Water Resources. This class and will provide participants the opportunity to construct a 55-gallon rain barrel as well as discuss installing an efficient irrigation system. The rain barrel is yours to take home!

Cost: $50.00 each barrel (covers cost of rain barrel and materials)

*Rain barrels measure 24 inches in diameter and 36 inches tall. Please bring a vehicle large enough to haul your rain barrel(s) home.
