The Texas Railroad Commission governs all oil and gas activities including the building of pipelines within the state. The RRC is up for Sunset Review this coming legislative session. Sunset works by setting a date on which an agency is abolished unless the Legislature passes a bill to continue it. Sunset staff evaluates the agency and issues recommendations for positive change. The Commission considers the recommendations, hears public testimony and decides on a package of changes to bring to the full Legislature.

Monthly Agenda

11:00-11:30 CCL Denton Meeting

11:30-12:00 CCL Monthly Actions Practice

12:00 - 1:00 National Call

Each month CCL volunteers from around the country gather locally for a conference call where we do three things: educate ourselves by listening to a guest speaker, celebrate our accomplishments, take coordinated action.

August speaker: Sam Daley-Harris, Center for Citizen Empowerment and Transformation.

Harris will join our August call and coach us on best practices to ensure that our actions have the greatest impact with members of Congress. After 15 years with RESULTS, Sam founded the Microcredit Summit Campaign, which he left in 2012 to establish the Center for Citizen Empowerment and Transformation.

Residents are invited to attend the City of Arlington’s Urban Drilling Educational Forum.

In an effort to increase transparency, the Urban Drilling Educational Forum will provide attendees with information on the roles and responsibilities of the local and state regulating authorities in urban drilling.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to listen to panelists, view presentations and ask questions about the regulation of urban drilling.

Representatives from the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC), the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the City of Arlington (COA) are scheduled to participate.

FWLNA welcomes Zac Trahan, director of Texas Campaign for the Environment’s DFW office, to discuss local impacts of the recent Texas Legislature.

He will speak specifically on HB 40, legislation providing that the state has preemption authority over oil and gas regulations. The new law holds that current and proposed city and other  political subdivision ordinances that place regulations on oil and gas activities are only allowed if they are commercially reasonable.

There will also be an overview of the legislative session as a whole and its impact on cities and neighborhoods.
