Some of the wildlife in Mansfield is only active during the evening and night. Join a naturalist as we try to identify some of the sounds and sights of natural night life! Wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. No need for a flashlight; our eyes adjust to the darkness. All participants over 2 years of age must pre-register for this program. Each child must have at least one adult attending and registered for the program. We encourage this program for the whole family! $10. $8/early registration.

Join Dinosaur Valley State Park Rangers and to get a glimpse into space. Learn about constellations, galaxies, stars and the moon. The Star Party will be held at Track Site #3. 

Park at the amphitheater parking lot and walk to the track site #3.

Telescopes will be on site or bring your own! Please no flashlights or cell phones while at the Star Party. Red tinted lights are permitted.

Join us for the 2nd Annual DFW Vegan Potluck & Picnic. Trawick pavilion offers basketball, sand volleyball, lake access for swimming, a children's playground, and more. Your payment includes vegan burgers and hot dogs and helps pay the entry fee for reserving the pavilion.

Bring a vegan dish as well – we will have sign-ups for dishes so we’ll be sure to have a variety of food.

Tickets are $6 per adult ($8 after 7/21), $4 children 4-17 ($6 after 7/21), and children 3 and under are free.

Follow the clues along the Chisholm Nature Trail and learn all about the Fort Worth Prairie and its significance in North Texas! Participants will enjoy a guided scavenger hunt along the 2-mile paved trail where they discover native grasses, plants and animals.

Our interactive Outdoor Enrichment 101 series will engage all ages with a variety of fun plant and animal-focused classes.

Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge presents: Snake Awareness

Liz McDaniel, also known as “Birdwoman” will tell stories about the birds we know so well, such as the woodpecker, the Cardinal and the Crow. Listen to her play on her cedar flute and tell the story of how the first flute came to the people.

We will go out in dual‐seated kayaks on Joe Pool Lake. An instructor will guide the participants on kayaking safety and proper techniques. Registration required for all participants. Appropriate for ages 7 and up. All kayaking materials will be provided. $24.

Dotty Woodson from Agrilife Extension will be teaching us all about harvesting rainwater and why it’s important. Then our Water Utilities Division will teach us how to construct the rain barrels. Each registered participant will receive one 55-gallon rain barrel to make and take home. All supplies provided. This class is geared towards adults and older children. Each registered adult may bring up to 2 family members to the class to learn and help create the barrel. (Only one person per family needs to register.) Pre‐registration required. $45/$50 per barrel. Register online.
