An environmental group or organization

Monthly gathering of local environmental groups to share information and discuss local environmental issues.

This month's topics:

• Denton gas plants - where are we and what can we do about the vote

• Gibbons Creek coal-fired power plant of which Garland and Denton are partners) - I need help in contacting Garland Council/officials regarding the sale/or closure of this power plant.  If Garland folks can contact me ahead of Thur., I'm happy to discuss.

Bring a potluck dish if you'd like. Come celebrate accomplishments from 2015, visit with friends and make plans for the new year.

Club members and guests will share the holiday spirit, some great Mexican food and the company of others at this annual event. Join us for some camaraderie, door prizes, silent auction (including a NEST Learning Thermostat and some great books), and perhaps some surprise speakers, you never know. We'll celebrate some of our outstanding volunteers and have plenty of time to mingle. There's bound to be talk about issues of the day -- air, water, fracking, coal, nuclear, whatever strikes your green fancy.

In December we will not have a regular meeting with a speaker, but instead will socialize and celebrate the holidays with members and guests. Bring a snack or dessert to share. Drinks will be provided. We will have a raffle, and our Sierra Club merchandise and calendars will be available for sale, as well as some gently used camping equipment.

Meeting features speakers on environmental topics. Check website for meeting info.

The Texas Drought Project, a non-profit founded in 2008 to educate Texans on climate change, will announce that they have succeeded in obtaining the signatures of more than 220 organizations for their resolution on climate change. The resolution calls for climate negotiators at the U.N. Climate Conference in Paris, set to begin Nov. 30, to heed the recommendations from the world’s top scientists in setting emissions cuts and asks that negotiators quickly move to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

Representations from North Texas environmental groups gather monthly to discuss developments in local issues. This month: Keystone decisions, Root & Branch Revue report, Arlington vote on city manager and oil & gas, big plans for 2016 and more.
