FWAS hosts internationally known author, researcher and conservationist Katie Fallon. Her latest book, Cerulean Blues: A Personal Search for a Vanishing Songbird will be discussed along with

wide-ranging anecdotes about her travels and discovery of the natural world. She will also be

signing her book for those that bring it and we hope to have copies for sale to those who’d like to

purchase it. A continental breakfast will be served along with hot coffee.

The symposium promotes the conservation of bluebirds and teaches the public how to attract and provide quality habitat for bluebirds across Texas.

Topics include Bluebird Basics, House Sparrow Control, Birding in Texas and Planting for Bluebirds Success. Information on Cornell Lab of Ornithology NestWatch and a Nestbox Building Workshop will also be offered.

NPAT hosts a field trip and dinner at the Dixon Water Foundation’s Leo Ranch Betty and Clint Josey Pavilion. 

The afternoon field trip starts at 1 p.m., led by botanical experts Bill Carr and Lisa Bellows. 
A catered dinner at the Clint Josey Pavilion will follow from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. We will share updates on the year at NPAT and offer a chance to mingle with other prairie enthusiasts. $45.

Volunteers needed for a family-friendly volunteer trash cleanup and seedball making day in Harold Simmons Park!. Meet at the Trinity Overlook Park at Commerce Street and Beckley Avenue.

The Great Seed Bomb will be leading the Seedball Workshop where you can get your hands dirty and make native grass and wildflower seedballs that will be dispersed in different areas along the Trinity River Corridor. Sowing seedballs helps to reinforce habitats vital to the migration of monarchs, the well-being of bees, and adds beauty to our green spaces.

Michael Eason, freelance botanist, author and photographer, will speak on plants in the Chihuahuan Desert region of West Texas, from Val Verde County to El Paso, will focus on species with interesting seed dispersal mechanisms and pollination biology. He’ll also address the topography, geology and climatic influences that make this region so diverse and online and print resources for plant identification.

Help volunteers from the Native Prairies Association of Texas' Fort Worth chapter salvage native wildflowers and grasses on a lot, behind the Hulen Home Depot, being developed for a new Tanglewood elementary school. Take some back your own gardens!
