Bird and nature walks, tree and plant identification, and more

Come enjoy the Trinity and help investigate the birds that live along the Trinity or that visit here during their migration. Since 2011, the Trinity Bird Count has been a partnership between the Trinity Commons Foundation, Trinity River Corridor Project, Strategic Community Solutions, and Audubon Texas (Trinity River Audubon Center), to collect information about critical Texas bird species.

Interested in nature and would like to share it with others? Begin your journey in becoming a docent (nature teacher) at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge. Info: Laura Veloz, 817-392-7413. 

In Spring, wetlands burst into sound as frogs and toads begin their yearly chorus.  Learn to distinguish different local frog calls and discover more about threats frogs and toads face in the wild. You will also learn about attracting frogs to your own backyard. $5 (with paid admission).

Owls hooting, armadillos rustling in the underbrush, maybe a coyote howling…we never know what we might hear on a night hike on the trails through Central Park. Join our guides as they lead a stroll down the trail, listening for owls as we go. We’ll end our hike by warming up around a campfire, where we will make s’mores and sip hot chocolate. $5/per person. Join our trail guides as they lead a twilight stroll down one of LLELA’s nature trails. We may hear some bumps in the night, but have no fear...it’s probably just an armadillo. Howling coyotes, hooting owls, and other nocturnal sounds will provide an out-of-the-ordinary hiking experience. Ages 5 and up. $10/person. Registration required by 11a.m. the day before the night hike at bit.ly/CoLRegistration; search for activity code 800000. 

Birders of all skill levels are welcome to join an expert birder as you explore prime birding locations along LLELA’s nature trails. Ages 10 and up. Free with $5/vehicle entry to LLELA.

There will be a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse on Friday, February 10. (Weather permitting) Starting at dark-thirty, members of the Fort Worth Astronomical Society will set up their telescopes for free public viewing of the celestial event. Moonrise is at 6:06pm.
