Lights Out Texas: Fall Migration Season - Texas (Aug. 15-Nov. 30)

Lights Out Texas organizers ask that residents, building managers and businesses turn off their outdoor lights from 11 p.m. till 6 a.m. from Aug. 15 to Nov. 30 to prevent bird deaths. Outdoor lighting distracts and confuses migrating birds who typically fly at night.

Peak fall migration season is Sept. 5 to Oct. 29.

Native Prairies Association of Texas is hosting an educational workshop on Saturday, November 2, at the Josey Pavilion, located at the Dixon Water Foundation's Leo Ranch. We'll spend the morning hearing from area experts on resources for prairie restoration and habitat management, holistic grazing, and working with land trusts to conserve prairies. After lunch, we'll head out into the field for a guided prairie walk.

Programs include a Bison Pasture Hike (9 a.m.), Bison Meet & Greets (10:30 & 11:30 a.m.), Want to be a Bison Manager (1 p.m.), and a come and go information table where staff from the Log Cabin Village will share how our ancestors utilized bison. Fees are associated with the programs.
