The Nature Conservancy will be hosting a casual prairie tour this Saturday. We will visit an area burned this summer and an area planned for a prescribed fire this fall. The late summer flowers are just beginning to bloom, the weather will be beautiful, and we hope to see you there!
Directions from Greenville: North on Hwy 69 to Celeste, Left on 5th Street / FM 1562. Follow FM 1562 for 3 miles. Turn right/north on CR 1140 (at a small water tower) and follow ½ mile to the red gate on the left/west. Parking will be on the road verge along the east side of the road.
Directions from McKinney: East on Hwy 380, past Farmersville, to FM 36. Turn left / north and follow FM 36 north for 11 miles. Turn right onto FM 1562, and follow FM 1562 for 1 mile. Turn left/north on CR 1140 (at a small water tower) and follow ½ mile to the red gate on the left / west. Parking will be on the road verge along the east side of the road.
Reminders: Visitors should check weather forecasts and dress for the potential of wet and/or muddy conditions. Boots and long pants are suggested, as are a personal water bottle and any snacks. We will have insect repellent and sunscreen available if necessary.
The prairie walk has potential hazards common to wild areas, such as uneven terrain, thorns, biting/stinging insects, poison ivy, etc. If visitors have severe allergies to anything, please share this info so that we can best mitigate risks.
