Fielder Museum: The Seashores of Ancient Arlington - Arlington (July 21 - Sept 28)

The Seashores of Ancient Arlington: A Rich Fossil Record exhibit will run daily from July 21 to the end of September and will feature fossil displays and special presentations on Arlington's unique significance in Texas geology and paleontology.

Opening Day Reception: Sunday, July 21, at 2 p.m. Special presentation and fossil showing by Art Sahlstein, discoverer of the Arlington Archosaur Site.

The museum is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and other times by appointment. Admission is $5 for ages 12 and over. Free for children under 12.

Lights Out Texas: Fall Migration Season - Texas (Aug. 15-Nov. 30)

Lights Out Texas organizers ask that residents, building managers and businesses turn off their outdoor lights from 11 p.m. till 6 a.m. from Aug. 15 to Nov. 30 to prevent bird deaths. Outdoor lighting distracts and confuses migrating birds who typically fly at night.

Peak fall migration season is Sept. 5 to Oct. 29.

Arlington Water Utilities: Value of Water Mini Poster Contest - Deadline Oct. 9

Arlington students in kindergarten through the fourth grade are invited to enter the contest by illustrating a way they use water or how animals use on their own piece of 8.5 by 11 paper. Pre-K students can complete one of the three coloring sheets posted at www.SaveArlingtonWater.com to enter the contest. This year, all completed entries can be sent to [email protected].

The deadline for entries is Oct. 9. One winner will be chosen from each grade. Each winner will receive water-themed books, fun steam-related sets, along with other fun water-themed prizes. They will also be invited to be recognized at an Arlington City Council meeting this fall.

City of Dallas: Air Sensor Summit - Dallas

The City of Dallas, along with Tarrant County College, North Central Texas Council of Governments, EPA Region 6, UT Dallas, Midlothian Breathe, and Children’s Health host the Air Sensor Summit. The program is aimed at municipalities, environmental nonprofits, state agencies and other stakeholders who want to learn more about using low-cost nonregulatory air sensors.

Speakers include Dr. Suzanne Apodaca from the EPA Region 6 office, who will talk about EPA’s Air Sensor Rental Program. Climate activist Nico Dominguez Carrero will make a presentation on air quality near concrete batch plants. Omari Burrell from EPA Region 6 will present an overview of the EPA Environmental Climate Justice Communities Grant Program. In addition, representatives from various air sensor companies will talk about their products, along with Dr. David Lary, who will talk about his work with air quality sensors at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Cost: Free. Includes lunch and free parking. Register by Sept. 3 to reserve lunch.

World premiere of a surrealist dark comedy centering on climate change. Written by Canadian-native Julia Lederer. Produced by the Dallas-based Watering Hole Collective.

Members of the Dallas Sierra ClubEnvironment Texas and Cedar Ridge Preserve will help lead talkbacks, which are panel discussions following each performance. Friends of the Dallas Sierra Club from Public Citizen, Liveable Arlington and North Central Texas Council of Governments will also be featured as Talkback Panelists after select performances.

Runs Sept. 19-22, 2024. Thursday thru Sunday, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
