Aug 10 2024 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Dallas College North Lake Campus
5001 N MacArthur Blvd Bldg G, Rm G406
Irving , TX

Two speakers:

Presentation 1: "Optimal Thermoregulation Strategies For Building Roofs"
Presented by: Ananya Chakravarthi, Contestant/Finalist, Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair
About Presentation 1: Anaya's project involved experiments conducted on a model home using various roofing materials and coatings to determine the most efficient materials. If you think a high-school student is too young to make valuable discoveries, consider this: The world's first mechanical calculator was invented by Blaise Pascal in 1642 .. when he was 16 years old. Hanna Herbst invented a tidal energy electrical generator that won the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge in 2015 .. when she was 17. Ananya is following in their footsteps.

Presentation 2: "Resource Economics & the Language of Business"
Presented by: Tony Robinson, President, Axis Design Build, Inc.
About Presentation 2: Axis constructs very energy efficient structures, and is the contractor that built the solar home where NTREG's October 5 meeting will be held. Yes, our October meeting is a week earlier than normal, and a Field Trip. It coincides with the American Solar Energy Society National Solar Home Tour also on October 5. Tony will discuss how to conduct energy-related conversation in the "language of business". He will show us how to translate energy-related ideas into the terminology of money and finance, so we can reach a wider audience.

In person or online. See website link below for details and Zoom link.

Learn all about moths and moth-ing! Although they may not be as famous as their day-flying cousins, the butterflies, moths are extremely important in the ecosystem. As a matter of fact, the diversity of moths can tell us a lot about the plant diversity in an area. We’ll have some light traps up to examine moths up close and learn about their incredible diversity and life habits.
