Let’s take a walk, meet some cool plant and animal species, and contribute to citizen science. You don’t have to be an expert.

Learn about the nature app “iNaturalist.” There may be one or more Texas Master Naturalists on hand.

Meet at the picnic tables off the parking lot at the preserve. Then explore with the group leader(s) or on your own. We will meet back at the picnic tables at 10:30 a.m. to review what we found and be done by 11 a.m.

Why is North Texas an epic ecotone? What is the Great Trinity Forest the easternmost example of? How do tilted layers of bedrock shape our three ecoregions, foster a plethora of soil types, and lead to our plant and wildlife diversity. And why did it tilt? Learn of places to experience these tenets firsthand from the book’s 25 hiking adventures.

Presenter: Environmental scientist Lorelei Stierlen

Lorelei is a passionate native plant enthusiast and has organized and worked on Blackland Prairie conservation projects for many years. She'll talk about where the Blackland Prairie is located, reveal the diverse and beautiful nature of the prairielands, and guide us through conservation steps we can take to preserve this beautiful habitat.

Attendees will receive access to the picnic area, basin, and Canyon Floor trail after hours. Tickets are $10 minimum donation.
