Lights Out Texas: Fall Migration (Aug. 15 - Nov. 30)

​Lights Out Texas is a campaign to turn off lights at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during spring and fall wildbird migrations to help protect nocturnally migrating birds.

Originally launched in 2017 by Houston Audubon, Lights Out Texas has grown statewide and is facilitated by Audubon Texas in collaboration with conservation non-profits, universities, governmental organizations and Texans dedicated to the conservation of birds.

The full fall migration starts Aug. 15 and ends on Nov. 30.
The peak fall migration is Sept. 6 through Oct. 29.

George W. Bush Presidential Center: Native Texas Park Tours - Dallas (Sept 30 - Nov. 18)

The 15-acre Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park is open daily for self-guided tours from sunrise until sunset 365 days a year. Pets are welcome. Embark on either a self-guided or group tour through the beautiful and sustainable park, building and grounds.

Guided tours will be available for free every Saturday at 10 a.m. starting Sept. 30 through Nov. 18. Weather permitting.

Tours begin in the Freedom Plaza by the fountain.

Native Plant Society of Texas: Level 3 Native Plant Landscaping Certification - Dallas & Tarrant County

Learn about how to install and maintain your native plant landscape! NLCP is a state-wide program, but classes focus on the characteristics and plants in the region in which they are taught.

This class is a collaboration between the Dallas and North Central chapters and is specific to the Dallas, Tarrant Counties, and surrounding areas.

PRESENTAIONS: Via Zoom Nov. 4:  9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

PLANT WALK: Nov. 5 

• DALLAS: 90-minute walks in shifts beginning at 10 a.m. or as weather permits. at the Texas Discovery Gardens (Gate 6, State Fair at 3601 Martin Luther King Blvd, Dallas 75210)

Please bring your own water & snacks for the plant walk!

ONLINE TEST:  After completing the class and plant walk you will be sent a link to the online test which you will have three days to complete.

Learn the connections between aquatic invertebrates and the health of the water and learn about aquatic species collection and how to determine species types and numbers and what their presence (or not) may mean in our nature preserve pond environment. We'll have nets, plastic trays, pipettes, and microscopes so we can figure out what's in the water at SCNP.
