Lights Out Texas: Fall Migration (Aug. 15 - Nov. 30)

Lights Out Texas is a campaign to turn off lights at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during spring and fall wildbird migrations to help protect nocturnally migrating birds.

Originally launched in 2017 by Houston Audubon, Lights Out Texas has grown statewide and is facilitated by Audubon Texas in collaboration with conservation non-profits, universities, governmental organizations and Texans dedicated to the conservation of birds.

The full fall migration starts Aug. 15 and ends on Nov. 30.
The peak fall migration is Sept. 6 through Oct. 29.

George W. Bush Presidential Center: Native Texas Park Tours - Dallas (Sept 30 - Nov. 18)

The 15-acre Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park is open daily for self-guided tours from sunrise until sunset 365 days a year. Pets are welcome. Embark on either a self-guided or group tour through the beautiful and sustainable park, building and grounds.

Guided tours will be available for free every Saturday at 10 a.m. starting Sept. 30 through Nov. 18. Weather permitting.

Tours begin in the Freedom Plaza by the fountain.

Texas Coalition Against Cryptomining: Week of Action - Corsicana (Oct. 23-27)

A new Bitcoin cryptomining facility being built by Riot Platform on roughly 265 acres in Navarro County is set to become the largest crypto mining data transaction processing center in the world. Critics say it will further strain the state’s electric grid and use millions of gallons of precious water daily.

The week of events are organized by the Texas Coalition Against Cryptomining and will include participation by Greenpeace and Stand Up for Change: Navarro County. Special guests who are scheduled to make presentations during the week are Ed Hirs, Energy Fellow at the University of Houston and Adrian Shelly, Texas office director for Public Citizen.

Join NPAT for a workshop at the Dixon Water Foundation’s Josey Pavilion. The workshop will feature expert talks on assistance programs for prairie restoration and habitat management, holistic grazing, and how to work with land trusts can help conserve prairies. The day will conclude with a tour of the Dixon Water Foundation’s Leo Ranch.

Registration includes the full workshop, lunch and prairie tour.

Sixteen singers and 10 instrumentalists will perform within The Dallas Contemporary stark industrial space as Courtney Ware's stunning AI-generated visuals animate a towering 110-foot wall, vividly enhancing the musical call to urgent conservation action.

Take a walk in the Full Moon light with Amy Martin, the Moonlady and author of Wild DFW: Explore the Amazing Nature Around Dallas-Fort Worth. After a poetic overview of the Moon, an audience-involving demonstration explains the lunar phases and why we only see one side of the Moon.

After this, you'll be a pro-level Moon watcher, able to predict where the Moon will be at any time.

Then off on a night hike with breaks for short raps ranging from synchrony and the formation of life on Earth to the qualities of moonlight. The walk will feature material from the book on nocturnal denizens, their use of Moon phases, and how urban nature turns to darkness for safety and adaptation. Plus plenty of Moon-shadow dancing, Moon song singing, and howling at the Moon.
