Lights Out Texas: Fall Migration (Aug. 15 - Nov. 30)

​Lights Out Texas is a campaign to turn off lights at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during spring and fall wildbird migrations to help protect nocturnally migrating birds.

Originally launched in 2017 by Houston Audubon, Lights Out Texas has grown statewide and is facilitated by Audubon Texas in collaboration with conservation non-profits, universities, governmental organizations and Texans dedicated to the conservation of birds.

The full fall migration starts Aug. 15 and ends on Nov. 30.
The peak fall migration is Sept. 6 through Oct. 29.

George W. Bush Presidential Center: Native Texas Park Tours - Dallas (Sept 30 - Nov. 18)

The 15-acre Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park is open daily for self-guided tours from sunrise until sunset 365 days a year. Pets are welcome. Embark on either a self-guided or group tour through the beautiful and sustainable park, building and grounds.

Guided tours will be available for free every Saturday at 10 a.m. starting Sept. 30 through Nov. 18. Weather permitting.

Tours begin in the Freedom Plaza by the fountain.

This engaging lecture delves into the history, geographical features and ecological conditions surrounding Grapevine Lake, a scenic reservoir located in North Texas. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this artificial lake has a rich heritage and offers a multitude of recreational opportunities while also supporting diverse wildlife populations.

Martin nearly died four years ago from a severely broken neck. She learned to walk again by hiking natural trails. Those hikes are an integral part of Wild DFW. Hear her inspiring story woven with rhapsodic passages from the book. Learn how a little knowledge about natural history and ecology can transform your perception of North Texas nature. Astounding color photos bring alive peak experiences from the 25 featured hiking adventures through hardwood bottomland forests and Eastern Cross Timbers, soaring limestone escarpments, lush wetlands, and rare remnants of Blackland and Fort Worth Prairies. Get to know a diverse community of volunteers working for nature.

If you would like to satisfy your savory or your sweet tooth cravings, please bring your favorite appetizer, cookie, bar or cake to share, and don't forget to bring your own non-alcoholic drink of choice. We will encourage guests to arrive early, between 6:40 to 6:45 PM to partake of food prior to the start of the meeting.
