Lights Out Texas: Fall Migration (Aug. 15 - Nov. 30)

​Lights Out Texas is a campaign to turn off lights at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during spring and fall wildbird migrations to help protect nocturnally migrating birds.

Originally launched in 2017 by Houston Audubon, Lights Out Texas has grown statewide and is facilitated by Audubon Texas in collaboration with conservation non-profits, universities, governmental organizations and Texans dedicated to the conservation of birds.

The full fall migration starts Aug. 15 and ends on Nov. 30.
The peak fall migration is Sept. 6 through Oct. 29.

The 15-acre Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park is open daily for self-guided tours from sunrise until sunset 365 days a year. Pets are welcome. Embark on either a self-guided or group tour through the beautiful and sustainable park, building and grounds.

Guided tours will be available for free every Saturday at 10 a.m. starting Sept. 30 through Nov. 18. Weather permitting.

Tours begin in the Freedom Plaza by the fountain.

Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center: Fall Native Plant Sale - Online (Thru Oct. 17)

We are again accepting online orders for our Fall Native Plant Sale! In this round, we've added more plants, new sizes, seed packets and have one 100-gallon rain barrel available.

This round of orders is open through Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Pickup appointments are available Thursday, Oct. 19 - Saturday, Oct.21.

Whether you find your plants of choice sold out online or you just prefer to shop in person, buzz by our sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023.

Please note that although a plant may be sold out online, we may have a limited amount in stock on the day of the live sale.

Neighborhood Litter Stomp is a citywide volunteer litter cleanup hosted by Keep Fort Worth Beautiful each fall. The focus of the event is to encourage your neighbors to come together and host a cleanup event in your neighborhood.

If your neighborhood is looking good and free from litter and trash, we encourage you to pick up litter at a local park, school or a waterway. It's easy to participate and Keep Fort Worth Beautiful provides all the supplies for free.

Local bat enthusiasts Ellen Ravkind and Anne Alderfer along with bat expert Kate Rugroden from the Bat World Sanctuary will provide our program at the preserve. Kate will talk about the bats in this area and the role the sanctuary plays in education and rehabilitation. Ellen and Anne will demonstrate the use of the echo location devices from Wildlife Acoustics (Echo Meter Touch 2).
