Lights Out Texas: Fall Migration (Aug. 15 - Nov. 30)

​Lights Out Texas is a campaign to turn off lights at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during spring and fall wildbird migrations to help protect nocturnally migrating birds.

Originally launched in 2017 by Houston Audubon, Lights Out Texas has grown statewide and is facilitated by Audubon Texas in collaboration with conservation non-profits, universities, governmental organizations and Texans dedicated to the conservation of birds.

The full fall migration starts Aug. 15 and ends on Nov. 30.
The peak fall migration is Sept. 6 through Oct. 29.

City of Arlington: Value of Water Mini Poster Contest - Deadline Oct. 13

The contest is for students who live or attend school in Arlington. Entries are due Oct. 13 and winners will be announced Oct. 19. One winner in each age group will receive water-themed books, fun STEAM-related kits, and other fun prizes.

Part of the Before the S’mores event (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) which includes an engaging presentation by Wild DFW author Amy Martin, crafts for the kids, and guided/self-paced night walks on the boardwalk. Craft cocktails for purchase. Ends with an old-fashioned campfire with songs and of course, s’mores around the campfire! Bring your own seating to enjoy the fire!
