Lights Out Texas: Fall Migration (Aug. 15 - Nov. 30)

​Lights Out Texas is a campaign to turn off lights at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during spring and fall wildbird migrations to help protect nocturnally migrating birds.

Originally launched in 2017 by Houston Audubon, Lights Out Texas has grown statewide and is facilitated by Audubon Texas in collaboration with conservation non-profits, universities, governmental organizations and Texans dedicated to the conservation of birds.

The full fall migration starts Aug. 15 and ends on Nov. 30.
The peak fall migration is Sept. 6 through Oct. 29.

Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day is an 18-hour online giving event designed to empower every person to give back to their community. Choose among hundreds of local nonprofits to donate to, including dozens of environmental and animal welfare groups. Matching funds are used to encourage donations. Early donations welcome too.

This month we invite you to join us in working in our pollinator gardens, watering, pulling pesky privet, staining benches, and picking up litter.

Come join us for all or part of the morning.

Please bring your favorite pruning or gardening tools, work gloves, or litter picker upper.

Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and for working in a natural area (long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, hat.

Water will be provided.

O.S. Gray Natural Area has no restroom facilities, but Kroger is near by.

We encourage everyone to adhere to safety guidelines - observe social distancing, wear a mask if you can't maintain distancing, please stay home if you are not feeling well.

Presentation: New Electric Vehicle Chargers at the South Irving Library with Melissa Baker

Presenter: Melissa Baker, Project Manager for the City of Irving, Texas

About Our Presentation: Melissa Baker will discuss the City of Irving’s Electric Vehicle Fast Charger Station. She will dive into the details of the charger, best practices, challenges faced, the needs assessment through Volta Charging, and a few of the lessons learned along the way.

The City of Irving received a federal grant for electric vehicle chargers. Irving was the only North Texas city to request a fast DC charger, and it's being installed at the South Irving Public Library.

Under this program, General Motors and other automakers will install 30,000 electric vehicle chargers nationwide. The companies will jointly spend at least $1 billion to build a North American network in an effort to encourage more people to buy battery-powered cars and trucks.
