The Planning and Designing Nature-Based Strategies for Climate-Sensitive Urban Environments.
This is the Launch Event of the much-anticipated 2024 Open City Conference: Resilient Futures is coming up in September. This launch event marks the beginning of an ambitious and forward-thinking initiative hosted by UTA's College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs in collaboration with the US Army Corps of Engineers. With a focus on nature-based solutions and resilience, this collaboration seeks to create a platform for experts from various disciplines to deliberate on the future of our cities in the face of climate sensitivity.
The launch event will occur at the CAPPA Gallery on Sept. 7, 2023, from noon to 1:30 p.m. This is an open invitation to the panelist presentations and afternoon lunch. It will feature an engaging panel discussion from experts in diverse fields, including architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, civil engineering, public policy, and sustainability. The panelists will share their insights and explore innovative approaches to address the challenges posed by climate change within the context of urban planning and design.
Later in the evening, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be an evening forum: The DFW ASLA Climate Action Plan Forum, introduced by Diane Jones Allen and Ms. Sarah Fitzgerald. This forum will provide an opportunity for more in-depth discussions and insights into the Climate Action Plan.
Lights Out Texas is a campaign to turn off lights at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during spring and fall wildbird migrations to help protect nocturnally migrating birds.
