Lights Out Texas: Fall Migration (Aug. 15 - Nov. 30)

Lights Out Texas is a campaign to turn off lights at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during spring and fall wildbird migrations to help protect nocturnally migrating birds.

Originally launched in 2017 by Houston Audubon, Lights Out Texas has grown statewide and is facilitated by Audubon Texas in collaboration with conservation non-profits, universities, governmental organizations and Texans dedicated to the conservation of birds.

The full fall migration starts Aug. 15 and ends on Nov. 30.
The peak fall migration is Sept. 6 through Oct. 29.

Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day is an 18-hour online giving event designed to empower every person to give back to their community. Choose among hundreds of local nonprofits to donate to, including dozens of environmental and animal welfare groups. Matching funds are used to encourage donations. Early donations welcome too.

City of Arlington: Value of Water Mini Poster Contest - Deadline Oct. 13

The contest is for students who live or attend school in Arlington. Entries are due Oct. 13 and winners will be announced Oct. 19. One winner in each age group will receive water-themed books, fun STEAM-related kits, and other fun prizes.

Jamie Gudmestad, National Weather Service meteorologist, will cover an often-discussed topic, the weather. Jamie will tell us how the National Weather Service has evolved and how the NWS works with local partners to educate and alert the public about adverse weather conditions.

Arlington Conservation Council: 2024 Arlington Solid Waste Update - Zoom

Tyler Hurd is new to Arlington but not to the solid waste field, having held various management positions in Denton's Solid Waste Residential Waste Collections Department and more recently in Irving as waste collections manager. With an M.S. in public administration from the University of North Texas and 15 years experience analyzing, budgeting and planning for neighboring cities, he is well prepared to modernize and streamline Arlington's waste collection, disposal, and recycling operations.
