Lights Out Texas is a campaign of education, awareness, and action that focuses on turning out lights at night during the spring and fall migrations to help protect the billions of migratory birds that fly over Texas annually.

Lights Out Texas advocates say darkening city skies is most crucial during spring migration's peak.

  • Full Migration Period: March 1 – June 15 

  • Critical Peak Migration Period: April 22 – May 12

Speaker: Dan Lepinski

Dan Lepinski, equipped with over 45 years' experience in renewable energy, will offer homeowners considering the purchase of solar energy systems the guidance they need to make informed decisions. Skilled in translating complex terminology into plain English, Dan will be understandable by anyone, regardless of background.

Dan has been involved in solar energy as a professional design engineer for more than 45 years. He is an active member of the Solar America Board for Codes and Standards and the Electric Power Research Institute “Smart Grid” Development Committee. In 2016, Dan was selected by the state of Texas as the most qualified subject matter expert in solar energy and tasked with conducting 20 solar energy educational workshops for Texas policymakers, code officials and others. He is a long-time member of North Texas Renewable Energy Group and serves on various NCTCOG committees helping to shape Solar Ready construction practices. Dan holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Arizona State University and is a licensed professional engineer.
