Lights Out Texas (March 1-June 15)

Lights Out Texas is a campaign of education, awareness, and action that focuses on turning out lights at night during the spring and fall migrations to help protect the billions of migratory birds that fly over Texas annually.

Lights Out Texas advocates say darkening city skies is most crucial during spring migration's peak.

  • Full Migration Period: March 1 – June 15 

  • Critical Peak Migration Period: April 22 – May 12

This service is open to the community. There is a 10 box/bag limit per visitor.

Bring your s’more back to your campsite or stop by the headquarters parking lot at 1 p.m. to roast a s’more with a ranger in our brand-new Solo Stove smokeless fire pit. We hope to see you out there as we celebrate 100 s’more years of Texas State Parks! Thanks to Solo Stove for donating fire pits to help us provide a smokeless s’mores experience and to HEB for donating s’mores supplies!

Supplies are limited to one s'mores kit per person, while supplies last.

Cost: Free with a $7 per person park entry fee or presentation of a TPWD Annual Park Pass. Children 12 and under are free to enter the park.

Enjoy the sunset, BBQ, and music on a pavilion overlooking the ongoing restoration of Bison Prairie, the vast field of tall rippling grasses and wildflowers looking much as it did when Native Americans and pioneers passed through.
