North Texas Unitarian Universalist Congregations: Ned Fritz Scholarship - Deadline May 1

Honoring long-time Unitarian Universalist and environmental activist Ned Fritz, these scholarships have been awarded to graduating high school seniors who attend a Unitarian Universalist congregation in North Texas. Meant for students who intend to study environmental subjects, or related fields, working toward a career focused on improving, protecting, or preserving the environment.

The Nature Conservancy: Clymer Meadow Preserve Tours - Celeste (April 23-June 18)

Walk among the wildflowers during our Spring Tours of the Clymer Meadow Preserve. Don’t miss your chance to visit this picturesque 1,450-acre preserve, which contains one of the last remnants of the Blackland Prairie— an imperiled ecosystem comprised of numerous bird, butterfly and wildflower species. You’ll immerse yourself in the beauty and color of true Texas prairie while learning about the history and ecology of our native grasslands. Grab your binoculars and camera, pack a picnic lunch, and get back to nature.

You have four opportunities to visit the Preserve:

9 a.m. - April 23 – Celebrate Earth Day on the Prairie!    RSVP by 4/18
9 a.m. - May 14 – Dickcissel Spring Tour    RSVP by 5/9
9 a.m. - May 21 – Spring Wildflower Tour (36th Year!)   RSVP by 5/16
8 a.m. - June 18 – Prairie Rose Tour    RSVP by 6/13

Tours will meet at different locations – information will be sent with RSVP confirmation. We recommend wearing a hat, long pants and closed-toed shoes. You may also wish to bring insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, binoculars, camera, lunch, and a water bottle. Tours are rain or shine!

Paul Quinn College: Environmental Justice Symposium - Dallas (April 23-24)

Saturday, April 23, 9-5 pm: Saturday will be a day long series of workshops and panels at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center. There will be two tracks: Environmental Justice and Land Use Planning, ending with a discussion about ForwardDallas and the city's plans to address environmental injustices through this update. The schedule and speakers for Saturday are available below.

Sunday, April 24 9-3 p.m.: Sunday will focus on highway infrastructure and environmental justice, also at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center.

Friends of Oak Cliff Parks: Bug Walk - Dallas

Join us for a walk through the native prairie meadow at the Kiest Conservation Area in Oak Cliff. Our guide is John Watts, respected guest speaker on insects, and the man who keeps the Texas Discovery Garden’s Butterfly House stocked with beautiful butterflies.

John was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida where, at the age of six, he developed an early interest in insects. He got his Masters Degree from the University of Florida  in entomology where he specialized in insect husbandry. He has worked at the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Houston Museum of Nature and Science and Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center in Westminster, Colorado. With over 20 years of experience and an inordinate fondness for nature in general, he will be sharing his wealth of knowledge on our walk through the Kiest Conservation Area.
