EPA: Draft Strategy to Reduce Lead Exposures and Disparities in U.S. Communities - Public Comment (Thru March 16)

On October 28, 2021, EPA released the draft Strategy to Reduce Lead Exposures and Disparities in U.S. Communities (Lead Strategy) for public comment. The agency is seeking input from communities affected by lead contamination through virtual workshops nationwide. 

EPA’s Lead Strategy will utilize the full suite of EPA authorities, expertise, and resources to reduce lead exposure. It outlines three significant ways the agency can reduce lead exposure in overburdened communities.

The EPA has extended the public comment period until March 16, 2022.

Dallas Blooms is the largest annual floral festival in the Southwest. Presented by Veritex Community Bank, Dallas Blooms will feature larger-than-life peacock topiaries along with more than 500,000 spring blooming bulbs to create the largest and most colorful floral display in the Southwest. An explosion of spring flowers comes from 100 varieties of spring bulbs, thousands of azaleas and hundreds of Japanese cherry trees.

Slow Food DFW: Growing Grants - Deadline March 31

Each year, Slow Food DFW awards 10 $500 Growing Grants to deserving schools, organizations and community gardens and farms. The awards are given to groups who show dedication and passion for growing food, building communities and understanding how to cultivate and provide good, clean, fair food for all.

The Slow Food DFW Growing Grants program was created to fill gaps in traditional funding sources for local food-related projects. Priority for funding is given to Black, Indigenous, LatinX, People of Color, women and/or veteran lead, use of local skills and resources and availability of locally grown food.

Fort Worth Botanic Garden/BRIT: Butterflies in the Garden - Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden hosts the largest exhibit of live, exotic butterflies in north central Texas with the Butterflies in the Garden exhibit in the Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s Rainforest Conservatory.

Cost: Tickets for timed entrance are currently for sale online. Admission is $12 for ages 16-64; $10 for seniors (65+); $8 for ages 6-15; and free for children under five.

For those who want to visit both the Garden and the butterfly exhibit, the price is $18 for adults and seniors and $10 for children. 

School groups of 20 or more may purchase tickets in advance for $8 per person. FWBG|BRIT members receive a discounted price of $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for children.
