EPA: Draft Strategy to Reduce Lead Exposures and Disparities in U.S. Communities - Public Comment (Thru March 16)

On October 28, 2021, EPA released the draft Strategy to Reduce Lead Exposures and Disparities in U.S. Communities (Lead Strategy) for public comment. The agency is seeking input from communities affected by lead contamination through virtual workshops nationwide. 

EPA’s Lead Strategy will utilize the full suite of EPA authorities, expertise, and resources to reduce lead exposure. It outlines three significant ways the agency can reduce lead exposure in overburdened communities.

The EPA has extended the public comment period until March 16, 2022.

Great Backyard Bird Count - Worldwide

Launched in 1998 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, the Great Backyard Bird Count was the first online citizen-science project to collect data on wild birds and to display results in near real-time.

Now, thousands of people of all ages and walks of life worldwide join the four-day count each February to create an annual snapshot of the distribution and abundance of birds.

Participate for at least 15 minutes on one or more days of the count, February 18-21, 2022. Simply tally the numbers and kinds of birds you see. Count from any location.

The class covers the general knowledge that beekeepers need in order to succeed in starting their first hive. The three-hour class lecture includes: Safety practices, identifying different casts of honey bees, basic honeybee biology, hive equipment, how to set up an apiary and order bees, pests and diseases, the products of the hive and hooney production and honey tasting.
