Lights Out Texas: Statewide (March 1-June 15)

Mar 1 2021 - 11:00pm to Jun 15 2021 - 6:00am

Lights Out Texas launched last spring, led by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The program encourages homeowners, building managers and businesses to turn out outdoor lights from March 1 to June 15  from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the spring bird migration in Texas. Turning off interior lights or closing drapes and shutters will also help to reduce light pollution. The peak migration window is between April 19 to May 7.

The EPA will hold three virtual listening sessions to take public input on the Agency’s upcoming regulations for the Oil and Natural Gas Industry using a web conference platform.

These rules are critical for Arlington because of the large number of gas wells here, and because Total is drilling and fracking more gas wells next to preschools, homes, and medical offices. Please participate and represent our community. We will post more information on how this impacts us all soon.

The listening sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT over three days. Each day will focus on different stakeholder groups; however, you may register to speak on *any day*.

It’s not easy to be a wild animal living in the city. Human development creates many challenges for wildlife and they must find a way to adapt in order to persist. In spite of this, our communities are filled with amazing species and breathtaking natural areas that are worthy of celebration and protection. This presentation will discuss the unique dynamics of urban ecosystems, how the fascinating creatures that live in urban areas manage to survive, and why they are so important.
