Lights Out Texas: Statewide (March 1-June 15)

Lights Out Texas launched last spring, led by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The program encourages homeowners, building managers and businesses to turn out outdoor lights from March 1 to June 15  from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the spring bird migration in Texas. Turning off interior lights or closing drapes and shutters will also help to reduce light pollution. The peak migration window is between April 19 to May 7.

Volunteers needed for a workday at Talbot Brothers Preserve, near New Boston. Come out for a day of cleaning up, installing bluebird boxes and exploring this Northeast Texas prairie and bottomland forest.

Please join us for an informational, live Zoom webinar exploring the health effects of oil and gas development with Dr. Anne C. Epstein, MD, FACP.

Dr. Epstein is a Clinical Associate Professor of at Texas Tech University. She was chair of the City of Lubbock Board of Health from 2015-2016 and chaired the Board of Health Fracking Committee, which recommended changes to the Lubbock Oil and Gas ordinance. Dr. Epstein was subsequently appointed to the Lubbock Oil and Gas Citizen Advisory Committee by City Council in 2013.
