City of Fort Worth: Environmental Awards - CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The City of Fort Worth Environmental Excellence Awards celebration honoring innovation in waste reduction, recycling and water efficiency is scheduled for Nov. 4, 2020.

The application for the 2020 Environmental Excellence Awards is available online at www.FortWorthTexas.gov/environmental-awards. The deadline to apply is Aug. 31, 2020.

The awards will be presented during a luncheon ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 at River Ranch Stockyards, 500 NE 23rdSt.

The awards program began in 1999 as the Pretreatment Awards, honoring companies in full compliance with wastewater regulations. Those awards will continue and are based on the number of consecutive years of compliance. They include the Star, Associate, Partnership and Stewardship levels.

In 2019, the awards program added the Innovation Award and the Recognition Award. Each category contains subcategories and businesses can apply for more than one award.

The Innovation Awards are presented in the areas of Water Use & Process Improvement, Water Conservation, Stormwater, Air Quality, Land Redevelopment, Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling.

Recognition Awards include Fort Worth Friendly Landscapes, recognizing businesses applying water conservation principles to their landscape, and the SmartWater Award, which has been presented since 2010 to industrial, commercial and institutional customers implementing water efficiency strategies following a SmartWater Audit.

The 10th Annual Sustainability Summit, presented by Dallas Community College District’s Mountain View Campus, will be held virtually on Friday, Nov. 6.

Botanical Research Institute of Texas: Flow Yoga Series - Zoom

This virtual Vinyasa flow series is led by Fort Worth yoga instructor Julie Vitek. Take in a tranquil morning view at home as you enjoy this slow, meditative yoga flow, connecting movement to the breath. You will leave each session feeling relaxed and refreshed, with a stronger connection to yourself and to the world. All levels are welcome. Individual classes are now available.

Join Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area to work in the pollinator gardens, watering, staining benches, and generally catching up after being off the past several months.

All are encouraged to adhere to safety guidelines - observe social distancing, wear a mask if you can't maintain distancing, stay home if you are not feeling well. 

Join us for all or part of the morning.

Please bring your favorite shovel, pruning or gardening tools, work gloves, or litter picker upper.

We encourage you to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and for working in a natural area (long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, hat).

Water will be provided.

O.S. Gray Natural Area has no restroom facilities, but Kroger is near by.

Topic: Biophilic Design: A Discussion on Green Real Estate

Speaker: Candace Chandra

Candace Chandra is the founder and lead designer of Nature4Nurture, a biophilic design and project management firm based in Richardson. Along with designing and implementing healthy landscapes, N4N also consults real estate developers on closed loop utility systems (renewable energy and water) and helps develop projects to receive environmental and tax credits. Prior to starting N4N, Candace was a principal at a infrastructure fund (focused on water reuse projects) and headed a sustainable foodtech startup. The first half of her career, Candace worked for the United Nations and World Bank on environmental health projects (water, waste, power) in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Guatemala, Mongolia, and China.

Candace received her bachelors from the University of Texas at Austin in physical anthropology and her masters from Tulane University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in applied health and economic development.
