Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden: Gail Norfleet: Made in Layers - Dallas (Thru Dec. 7)

Nov 2 2019 - 10:00am to Dec 7 2019 - 5:00pm
Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden
6616 Spring Valley Road
Dallas , TX

Plexiglass continues to be a foundational element in Gail Norfleet's work. The clear material is the surface upon which she applies paint and collage, and its inherent transparency allows light to illuminate multiple layers. Working on the front and back, and on two panels, creates a real space. In this exhibition, Norfleet places familiar still life subjects (flowers, vases, birds) in front of brightly rendered landscapes and surreal interiors. The subjects originating from life are playfully manipulated into impossible yet compelling compositions.

Artist Talk: Nov. 16 at 11 a.m.

North Texas Renewable Energy Group: 2019 Texas Legislation Affecting Renewable Energy & A Look Ahead - Dallas

Nov 9 2019 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Midway Hills Christian Church
11001 Midway Road
Dallas , TX

Presenter: Senator Royce West, Texas State Senator, District 23

Royce West was first elected to the Texas Senate in November 1992. Since taking office, he has represented the 23rd Senatorial District on behalf of the citizens of Dallas County in the Texas Legislature. During his tenure, Senator West has been named by Texas Monthly as one of the 25 most powerful people in Texas politics, been selected for the magazine's biennial "Ten Best Legislators in Texas" list, and has twice been named as an "Honorable Mention."

Senator West obtained his BA and MA from the University of Texas at Arlington, and Juris Doctor (Law degree) from the University of Houston.

Royce was one of the Senators voting against the "Hall" amendment to House Bill 3143 in the 2019 Texas Legislature, which - if passed - would have cut the renewable energy industry out of the tax abatement program. Senator Bob Hall of Edgewood asserted, "Not only do (solar and wind farms) harm the reliability of the electrical grid, they also do little to nothing for employment and disrupt the lives of many of our constituents."

Senator West countered, ""We should leave it to local governments whether they want to offer these incentives to a particular industry. If we cut the industry out, we here are determining the winners and losers."

The bill, with its amendment, was defeated.

In addition to his senatorial duties, Senator West is the managing partner in the law firm of West & Associates, L.L.P.

Senator West's presentation to the North Texas Renewable Energy Group will be focused on solar and other forms of renewable energy legislation. He is a highly recognized person in the Texas Legislature, and a prominent person in Texas politics.

Politically-based questions on any topics related to Senator Royce's aspirations for office will not be accepted at our November 9th meeting.

In addition, we expect many attendees, quite possibly exceeding the maximum allowed by the City of Dallas Fire Marshal. There may also be media coverage.

To accommodate a possible overflow crowd, additional chairs will be set up outside (weather permitting), immediately adjacent to the meeting room. Our meeting host offered to provide speakers so anyone seated outside can still hear Senator West's presentation.
