Want to give North Texas green groups some love? This month is the perfect time to do it. If you donate during the 11th annual North Texas Giving Day on Sept. 19, your contributions will be amplified.

Last year alone, $48 million was raised through more than 157,000 gifts benefiting 2,700 local nonprofits

This year, more than 3,000 nonprofits from 20-counties are registered, including dozens of environmental and animal welfare groups. Texas Campaign for the Environment, Dallas Sierra Club, Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club, Dallas Peace and Justice Center, two local Native Plant Society of Texas chapters, Downwinders at Risk, Groundwork Dallas, Texas Trees Foundation, Tandy Hills Natural Area, Twelve Hills Nature Center, Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and the Humane Society of North Texas are just a few of the many eco-friendly nonprofits participating.

Search the site for your favorite organizations. You can donate any amount that fits your budget, with a $1 minimum, from Sept. 9-19.  Every donation is eligible for bonus funds and prizes, distributed by Communities Foundation of Texas, which governs North Texas Giving Day.

Carol Pierce Goglia, director of marketing and communications at Communities Foundation of Texas, said the North Texas Giving Day website is a one-stop-shop for donating to your favorite nonprofits.

“You can search for cities, organizations and nonprofits near and dear to your heart,” said Goglia. “All 3,000-registered-nonprofits are eligible for one million dollars in bonus funds and prizes.”

In addition, there are 348 nonprofits, which will match each donation dollar for dollar.

Any 501(c)3 nonprofit in the 20-county area of North Texas can register to participate. They must acknowledges that 100 percent of the proceeds raised during the event will go directly towards the organization’s programs and services in the eligible counties. The deadline for nonprofits to register was Aug. 19.

The 2019 Honorary Chairs for North Texas Giving Day are retired NBA Dallas Maverick legend Dirk Nowitzki and wife Jessica.

“Jessica and I are thrilled to be this year’s honorary chairs of North Texas Giving Day. The North Texas community has given so much to me and my family over the last 21 years, and we can’t think of a better way to get involved in the community that has supported me on and off the court,” says Nowitzki. “Giving back is a huge part of our family, and we’re thrilled to join forces with Communities Foundation of Texas to spread the North Texas Giving Day message and rally everyone who lives here to give back to our community on Sept. 19,” Jessica adds.

Goglia says that the wonderful idea of Communities Foundation of Texas came to life in 2009.

“We started the same year that Colorado Gives started and we are proud to say that Dallas is the biggest in the nation. We appeal to our citizens to again open their hearts and contribute to their favorite nonprofit. Someone will thank you.”
