Join us for a The Trinity Bird Count is an exciting new effort to count
every bird species in and along our Trinity River in Dallas! Birds are
among the most beautiful and intriguing visitors and residents of the
forests, grasslands, river banks and neighborhoods along the Trinity
River.

This year, the Trinity Commons Foundation begins an
exciting new project to learn about the Trinity's birds - the Trinity
Bird Count. With 636 of the 957 bird species in North America, Texas is
for the birds! Come enjoy the Trinity and help investigate the birds
that live along the Trinity or that visit here during their migration.

TCE is throwing an exciting party at Highland Mall
in Austin to celebrate Texas Campaign for the Environment’s 20 years of
protecting our air, water, land and health – and you’re invited to join
the party or become a sponsor! The celebration will be TCE’s first-ever Trash Makeover: Fashion Reuse Challenge. Judged by a celebrity panel with Liz Watson serving as emcee, local designers will compete with each other by creating fashions comprised of recycled materials. The VIP reception begins at 6 pm and the main event is from 7 to 9 pm in a former clothing store on the lower level of the mall.

Bison Tour - Lewisville

Bison Tour: Last Sunday of each month (except July and August), 2:00 p.m. (time subject to change during the heat of the summer)

Once each month, visitors are invited to roam over to LLELA’s bison
area for a guided tour. Participants will meet herd owner Robert Vaughan
at the gatehouse, then drive out for an opportunity to see the bison up
close (great photo opportunity!) and learn more about bison natural
history and husbandry.

All ages are welcome; registration is required at
972-219-7980. The tour is available for only $2/person in addition to
LLELA’s regular gate fee of $5/person. The bison are normally off view
in a secure area of LLELA, so this is a chance to visit a part of the
preserve most people don’t get to see.

"Will There Be Enough Water in Texas?" Forum - Irving

A public forum on the water situation in north Texas will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24.  The forum, titled “Will There Be Enough Water in Texas,” will be co-sponsored by six area chapters of the League of Women Voters of Texas and two area groups of the Sierra Club.  It will be held at the Irving Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd, from 1:00-4:30 and is free to the public.

Several distinguished speakers have agreed to present information on the supplies and delivery of water in our region and will answer questions from the audience. They include Lewis McMahan, a Director of the Texas Water Development Board, Tod Maurina of the North Texas Groundwater Conservation District, Denis Qualls of Dallas Water Utilities, and Tyson Broad of the Sierra Club. A talk on the basics of Texas water law will be given by Simone Kiel of Freese and Nichols, a consulting firm to the State of Texas.
