At 588,000 acres New Mexico’s Vermejo Park Ranch is the largest parcel of private land in the United States. The North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains National Park is only 520,000 acres, as printed in 1997 Fortune Magazine that declared Ted Turner the nation’s largest private landowner in the wake of the Vermejo acquisition.

One of owner Ted Turner's main objectives is the conservation of all the property he has purchased.
