Bison Tour: Last Sunday of each month (except July and August), 2:00 p.m. (time subject to change during the heat of the summer)

Once each month, visitors are invited to roam over to LLELA’s bison
area for a guided tour. Participants will meet herd owner Robert Vaughan
at the gatehouse, then drive out for an opportunity to see the bison up
close (great photo opportunity!) and learn more about bison natural
history and husbandry.

All ages are welcome; registration is required at
972-219-7980. The tour is available for only $2/person in addition to
LLELA’s regular gate fee of $5/person. The bison are normally off view
in a secure area of LLELA, so this is a chance to visit a part of the
preserve most people don’t get to see.

Come and enjoy an evening stroll on the Nature Center’s trails as we explore nature before nightfall. Evening provides a unique opportunity to view animals that make the Nature Center home. Bring water and wear weather appropriate clothing. Pre-registration required. $10 (includes admission fee)/MEMBERS $5.

Forty-two years ago, Fort Worth was abuzz with reported sightings of the Lake
Worth Monster - described as a hairy, scaly 7-foot-tall man-goat-beast.
Though sightings of the creature haven't occurred regularly since the
summer of 1969, the annual Lake Worth Monster Bash keeps alive the local
legend and its habitat. The 2011 celebration is just around the corner
and you will want to be a part of this fun-filled family event!

The meeting starts at 7:30 PM, but generally most people come at 7:00 to
socialize and talk about ponds. Each month's meeting will feature a
different guest speaker and topic. Please see website for the latest topics.

A public forum on the water situation in north Texas will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24.  The forum, titled “Will There Be Enough Water in Texas,” will be co-sponsored by six area chapters of the League of Women Voters of Texas and two area groups of the Sierra Club.  It will be held at the Irving Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd, from 1:00-4:30 and is free to the public.

Several distinguished speakers have agreed to present information on the supplies and delivery of water in our region and will answer questions from the audience. They include Lewis McMahan, a Director of the Texas Water Development Board, Tod Maurina of the North Texas Groundwater Conservation District, Denis Qualls of Dallas Water Utilities, and Tyson Broad of the Sierra Club. A talk on the basics of Texas water law will be given by Simone Kiel of Freese and Nichols, a consulting firm to the State of Texas.

 Potluck
dinner and social starts at 6:30 PM
Program and business meeting starts at 7:00 PM.

Each month the club meeting includes a raffle -- visitors recieve a free
coupon -- prizes are cool river gear or paddling and camping
accessories. There is always discussion on upcoming activities,
environmental action, and issues related to safe paddling.

REMEMBER: Please bring a simple or gourmet pot luck dish.
