Meeting Synopsis: The number of wind turbines on the landscape is increasing. As the number of turbines grows, the potential for wildlife/turbine interactions grows as well. This talk will provide an overview of wind/wildlife interactions, wildlife regulations affecting wind projects, and measures that can be taken by wind farm owners to reduce bird and bat mortality at operating wind farms.

You can pick up a Bluebonnet Trail Map at the Ennis Welcome Center located at 201 NW Main St, Ennis, Texas 75119. The Ennis Welcome Center is open Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Earth Fair, hosted by the UT Dallas Office of Student Volunteerism & Office of Sustainability, will feature informational booths and interactive activities from student organizations, campus departments, and community partners. More than 400 students and community members participated in last year's UT Dallas Earth Fair to learn about alternative energy options, organic gardening, habitat restoration, local food production, waste reduction, and more. This year's Earth Fair theme will be "Green UTD."

This year, Earth Fair will also be Zero Waste event. Booths will not be permitted to provide giveaways/activities that generate trash.

Joshua Byrne of the Fort Worth Zoo has been passionate about insects since before he could talk, and once he was able to, it was all he talked about. He has kept and studied invertebrates privately for over 20 years, as well as professionally through the Iowa State Insect Zoo, Little Rock Zoo, and currently the Fort Worth Zoo. He has a bachelor’s degree in animal ecology from Iowa State University, but was extremely happy to move to Texas where the weather is warmer and the insects are bigger!

Have you taken photos of trips or avian life forms in your neighborhood? Want to share them with your fellow FWAS Members? It's that time of year again to go through your folders and find those gems. Forward your photos to Jim Jones. Include a list of photos with a description of the subject, including when and where taken. Remember to reduce the file size to below 3 MB. Videos are also welcome!

You can email the photos in batches to jim_jones@fwas.org or upload them to cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) to share with Jim, which is the best way to get your files to him. Deadline for submissions is May 2, 2024.
