“Trashing Our Treasure” Photography Exhibit at Dallas City Hall, Main Lobby July 16-August 10, 2012

Dallas, TX, July 15, 2012 – Shared FUEL, a Dallas-based sustainable nonprofit, today announced that “Trashing Our Treasure,” a photography exhibit of litter at White Rock Lake, will be displayed in the main lobby of Dallas City Hall from July 16 through August 10.  The event is free and open to the public.

Designed to educate, inform and motivate individuals to be aware of the environmental consequences of litter on our green public places, “Trashing Our Treasure” debuted during last year’s centennial celebration of White Rock Lake.  The exhibit focuses on unnatural predators, such as styrofoam, plastics, aluminum cans and glass, that accumulate along the shoreline, particularly during storm events, and encroach upon the area’s wildlife habitats.

According to Alison Parker, exhibit coordinator and Shared FUEL’s program chair of The Litter Project, “We are excited about showcasing this educational exhibit at City Hall and encourage families to view it. We hope the photography transforms how people think about litter and its impact on nature.”

Says Annemarie Marek, president of Shared FUEL, “We care deeply about White Rock Lake because it is a green retreat for so many diverse groups and people in our city. We are very excited about the visual conversation that this show will generate and hope that it will motivate all to collaborate and innovate better ways to mitigate the litter problem.“

East Texas TX
United States
The Tar Sands Blockade is hosting a three-day training in the East Texas area for environmental activists hoping to engage in nonviolent direct action against the Gulf Coast portion of Keystone XL pipeline. Participants will focus on learning, implementing, and imagining new tactics for nonviolent blockades and other forms of direct action. This camp will take place outdoors in the Texas summer, so people should come prepared for very hot weather. Participants will be camping on site, and while special arrangements may be available, the nature of this camp may make it difficult for those with physical conditions that limit their ability to be in hot environments for long periods of time.

Coppell Farmers Market

The Coppell Farmers Market, established in 2003, has become one of the best community markets in the DFW area, a one-stop shopping trip for fresh, seasonal produce, pastured meats, eggs, breads and locally made foods. Both the customers and the farmers/producers have shaped the market to what it is today, guided by a community-based organization, the Coppell Farmers Market Committee. The guidelines for the Coppell Farmers Market state that all products sold at the Coppell Farmers Market shall be grown, raised, and/or produced directly by the vendor within the North Central Texas region, with the exception of full disclosure and approval of selling another’s product.

Weekly and seasonal offerings:

Grass fed beef, natural pork & chicken, eggs from free range hens, Gulf coast seafood, wild-caught Alaska salmon, tomatoes, lettuces and varieties of greens, herbs, beets, turnips, radishes, spring and large onions, mushrooms, new potatoes and sweet potatoes continue to be offered in addition to honey, cheese, pasta, artisan breads, pies, cookies, cake balls, soup & dessert mixes, herb-infused sorbet, chips and salsa, granola, spice blends, pecans, spiced nuts, Texas olive oil, coffee and tea.

Find bedding plants for spring/summer color, herbs or vegetables. Look for doggie treats, custom soaps and soy candles, worm castings, worm wine or pre-order vermi-composting kits.
