What is the Live Green in Plano Volunteer Program?
The Live Green in Plano Volunteer Program is a local training opportunity for volunteers to work in partnership with the staff of the Sustainability & Environmental Services Department and extend information throughout our community. Live Green Volunteers will pledge to take individual actions toward greener living and help others do the same.
Series Includes:
- Waste Diversion / Consumerism
- Water Quality / Indoor Conservation
- Compost, Native Plants, Irrigation
- Air Quality, Energy
- Green Building
- Getting the Word Out
Material is presented through City of Plano Environmental Education Coordinators, guest speakers, volunteers, film, tours, demonstrations and class discussion.

The Downtown Arlington Farmer’s Market is a community-oriented market focusing on Texas provided foods, arts, crafts, services and wares. We are located at 215 Front Street Arlington, Texas 76011 and we open every Friday and Saturday from 8AM to 1PM.
The goal of the market is to provide a venue for local vendors to offer Arlington, Texas residents an opportunity to buy the freshest meat, produce, breads and other great foods, crafts and products available.

WRLM is held twice a month – the second and fourth Saturday – at The Green Spot Market and Fuels. Second Saturdays are Everything Markets and feature farmers, food artisans and arts and crafts. Fourth Saturdays are Just Farmers - farmers, producers, and food artisans.
White Rock Local Market has several community programs: a Lone Star food stamp program at the market, workshops, school field trips, and an after school entrepreneurial program.
Vendors include organic growers Farmer Jones Plants and Produce, Texas Worm Ranch, Good Earth Organics and Kitchen Pride Mushrooms. Later in the spring, we will be joined by Rae Lilli Farm, Sachse Heritage Farms, Larken Farms and Lightsey Farms. Juha Ranch returns with grass fed beef, chicken, lamb, pork and eggs; Homestead Heritage will be there with their wide variety of meats and cheeses. Eagle Mountain Cheese, Grapevine Grains, The Tamale Company, Lucido's Pasta, and Texas Olive Ranch. Empire Baking and Village Baking Company will be there, along with Tough Cookie Vegan Bakery and newcomers The Bread Crumb and EMA Baking. Corked in Texas will bring wines from Lone Oak Winery in Burleson, including the 2010 Texas Viognier, which won double gold at the prestigious San Francisco Wine Competition.

Grass fed beef, natural pork & chicken, eggs from free range hens, Gulf coast seafood, wild-caught Alaska salmon, tomatoes, lettuces and varieties of greens, herbs, beets, turnips, radishes, spring and large onions, mushrooms, new potatoes and sweet potatoes continue to be offered in addition to honey, cheese, pasta, artisan breads, pies, cookies, cake balls, soup & dessert mixes, herb-infused sorbet, chips and salsa, granola, spice blends, pecans, spiced nuts, Texas olive oil, coffee and tea.
Find bedding plants for spring/summer color, herbs or vegetables. Look for doggie treats, custom soaps and soy candles, worm castings, worm wine or pre-order vermi-composting kits.
Be sure to check with the artisan vendors as they often add new, interesting flavors to their line-ups.
The market is held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon from mid-April to mid-September with a special Thanksgiving market in November. Vendors include Holleman Farms for beef, chicken, pork and eggs, Stephanie’s Cookies, Joy Farms and Lucido Pastas. Located on the parking lot between Celebration Restaurant and Market.

Dr. Lehman Marks, Winston Solar Car Challenge Event Coordinator
The Winston Solar Car Challenge is an annual event for high-school students, where the students themselves design, build, and race a totally solar powered car.
Girls! This isn't just for guys! The 2011 Solar Car Challenge race was won by the Houston Lady Racers from Houston High in Houston, Mississippi!
The Solar Car Challenge was established in 1993 to help motivate students in science and engineering, and to increase alternative energy awareness. The Challenge teaches high school students around the world how to build roadworthy solar cars.
The Solar Education Program provides a safe environment for teams to display their solar cars. On alternating years, we share the fun of the world-famous Texas Motor Speedway or drive cross-country to share their projects with millions of people.
The 2011 Solar Car Challenge is a closed-track event held at the world famous Texas Motor Speedway. Come share the fun... meet the kids and see their solar cars. For more information, see the Calendar.

Participants will learn the proper watering techniques that will help ensure that their landscape will not wilt during the summer heat. They also will learn about new water-saving devices and practices that help reduce high summer water bills.
